Island’s jobless rate dipped to 4.2% in July

Long Island’s unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in July, down 0.6 percentage points from a year ago, the state Labor Department reported Tuesday. Nassau County’s rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 4.0 percent, while Suffolk County’s rate decreased by the same 0.6 percentage points to 4.4 percent. By comparison, New York State’s rate was 5.0 percent and the national rate was 5.1 percent.
