Island unemployment rate inches higher

Long Island’s unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2 percent in June, rising 0.2 percentage points from a year ago as additional workers began looking for jobs. LI jobless rate dips below 4% in April

Long Island’s unemployment rate dropped below 4 percent in April for the first time in nine years, the Labor Department reported Tuesday. Nassau’s rate dipped 0.5 points to 3.7 percent, while Suffolk’s decreased 0.6 points to 4.1 percent, giving the region a combined 3.9 percent rate. The numbers are not seasonally adjusted.
