Nearly two years after striking out on its own, a CA Technologies spinoff has added another vital cog – and has finally found itself.
Melville-based erwin inc. on Friday declared itself “the data governance company,” based on technologies and expertise it has honed since spinning out of CA in March 2016. As “part of this focus,” the software-as-a-service company has acquired Italy-based A&P Consulting (parli Italiano?), a technology and consulting services firm located in Rome.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. But A&P Consulting gives erwin inc. “a powerful technology for harvesting operational data” – henceforth renamed “the erwin Collector” – and “a suite of high-impact corporate and data governance consulting services,” according to the Melville firm.
With more than three decades of development under its belt, erwin inc. is not your typical two-year-old startup, according to CEO Adam Famularo, who noted the A&P Consulting deal is not the first merger the spinoff has orchestrated since flying CA’s coop in early 2016 – and all roads have been leading here, to the creation of the erwin EDGE data-governance platform.
“For more than 30 years, erwin Data Modeler has been the first choice of CDOs, CIOs data architects and other IT professionals,” Famularo said in a statement. “During the past 20 months, we have steadily and strategically transformed our anchor data-modeling technology into the ultimate data-governance platform.
“With three acquisitions and significant investment in R&D, we’ve integrated our data governance, enterprise architecture, business process and data-modeling capabilities to deliver the erwin EDGE, a platform delivering on the promise of Data Governance 2.0.”
The erwin EDGE is designed to deliver “data-driven insights, agile innovation, regulatory compliance and business transformation,” according to erwin inc. The addition of the erwin Collector gives the company “automated harvesting” functions and the ability to transform operational data from a variety of enterprise systems including ServiceNow and RSA Archer
A&P Consulting has advised some of Italy’s most prestigious energy, financial services, infrastructure, retail and telecom brands for more than 15 years, according to erwin inc., and has also worked with Italian government agencies.
