No. 45: John Ray – Throwing His Hat In The Ring

Ray of sunshine: Attorney John Ray is a delightful man ... unless you're opposing in him in a court of law, where he's more than happy to roll up his sleeves and throw down.

Attorney John Ray is always ready to fight the good fight.

The audacious attorney has carved out quite a career at his Miller Place-based practice over the last four decades, replete with notorious serial killers, nude middle-school teachers, gun-toting rape victims, precedent-setting surrogate-baby trials and other ripped-from-the-headlines cases of international renown.

Outside the courtroom, he’s created other impressive legacies, performing for decades as Ebenezer Scrooge and other well-known characters in productions across Long Island and New York City – and stymying the competition as the oldest goaltender (75!) to win MVP honors in ULAX, a hyper-competitive nationwide lacrosse league.

In today’s episode, John joins Spark host Gregory Zeller to discuss the rebellious instincts that first drew him into law — and his ongoing willingness to take on any challenge, when the cause is just.
