Two Long Island higher-ed institutions are uniting to give collegians a running start on their graduate degrees.
Farmingdale State College and Garden City-based Adelphi University have announced a “streamlined partnership” that guarantees Farmingdale graduates admission to Adelphi master’s degree programs in business analytics, computer science, general psychology and sports management.
Pre-requisite classes and minimum GPAs apply. But the partnership is still an express onramp to post-graduate success and a “unique opportunity” for Farmingdale State students, according to Adelphi University Executive Vice President and Provost Steve Everett.
“Farmingdale State students will be welcomed into our diverse and close-knit community, where they will benefit from their experiences with our outstanding faculty and Adelphi’s personalized support services,” Everett said Thursday.
The master’s degree programs are open to undergrads who major in certain disciplines, including business management, applied psychology, computer engineering and others. There are various paths into the four graduate-degree programs: Applied economics and computer programming undergrads, for instance, may be eligible for Adelphi’s Business Analytics track, while professional communications and global business majors may qualify for the Sports Management track.
The partnership further accelerates post-grad pathways by allowing several Adelphi master’s degree requirements to be satisfied by specific Farmingdale State undergraduate courses, saving both time and tuition.

Laura Joseph: Pivotal partnerships.
And Farmingdale State students who qualify for the Adelphi master’s programs will be automatically considered for a variety of Adelphi graduate-scholarship opportunities.
This is not the first joint-admissions effort for either school. Adelphi maintains a funneling program that welcomes two-year Suffolk County Community College graduates into the fold, and has forged joint-admissions alliances that send Adelphi four-year graduates to Syracuse-based Upstate Medical University and the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
In 2019, Farmingdale State College announced a joint admissions arrangement welcoming two-year Nassau Community College graduates. Now, instead of welcoming students in search of higher academic credentials, the SUNY college will be sending off graduates seeking advanced degrees.
“Farmingdale State College values the role that these partnerships play in providing students with designated pathways to continue their education at the graduate level,” noted Farmingdale State Provost Laura Joseph. “Through the seamless alignment of specialized programs, students are provided with advance standing opportunities that decrease the time needed for degree attainment.”
