The SUNY Board of Trustees got it right with Timothy Sams.
The longtime academic administrator took the reins of SUNY Old Westbury from longtime President Calvin Butts III smack dab in the middle of the ever-changing COVID pandemic, a unique challenge for any new president.
But his particular experiences with inclusive innovation and strategic change – along with decades of professional success at well-regarded universities across the nation – had prepared him well to lead one of Long Island’s leading liberal arts institutions, in the Age of Coronavirus and beyond.
Now completing his first year in office, Tim joins Spark host Gregory Zeller to discuss decades of U.S. social imbalance, the vital role his college plays in support of the regional innovation economy and the monumental responsibility of shaping impressionable young minds.
