Growing physician network increases lung capacity

Breathe easier: Stony Brook Community Medicine has added the specialists of New York Pulmonary Consultants to its growing roster of providers.

Stony Brook Community Medical has brought a new pulmonary practice into the fold.

The burgeoning, highly coordinated healthcare network based around the Stony Brook School of Medicine has welcomed New York Pulmonary Consultants into its expanding family of community-based practices and physicians.

New York Pulmonary Consultants offers comprehensive and integrated pulmonary care at offices in Port Jefferson and Riverhead, with “other satellite offices to be announced soon,” according to a statement from Stony Brook Medicine.

Providing “a pivotal addition” to its Suffolk County-based network of providers, New York Pulmonary Consultants features “seasoned specialists providing the highest-quality pulmonary and critical-care services, including the management of lung cancer, sleep disorders and advanced interventional bronchoscopy,” Stony Brook Medicine said Monday.

Juan Bucobo: Welcome to the family.

The practice group will also “advance the pulmonary sciences through clinical investigations,” Stony Brook Medicine added.

New York Pulmonary Consultants becomes the 21st private practice to join Stony Brook Community Medical. The practice was attracted by an “opportunity to expand our services to all of Suffolk County,” noted physician and NYPC co-founder Keith Harris, “a goal since our inception nearly 10 years ago.”

“Our practice and commitment began and remains with the community of Suffolk County,” Harris said in a statement. “We are proud and excited about the opportunity to work with Stony Brook Medicine to accomplish the best care possible in all disciplines of pulmonary medicine.”

Juan Bucobo, president of Stony Brook Community Medical, said New York Pulmonary Consultants’ team of highly trained physicians – including Harris and doctors Nick Patel, Peter Ottavio, Francis D’Orazi, Mario Solomita and Yuval Hiltzik – would quickly prove to be valuable additions to the growing physician network.

“I am excited to welcome New York Pulmonary Consultants to our community network,” Bucobo said Monday. “The addition of Dr. Harris and his group offers our patients wider access to the high-quality physicians offered by Stony Brook Medicine throughout Suffolk County.”
